The Spanish Stylespanish design 1

Being inspired by my recent trip to Spain, I wanted to share some design insight that makes this enchanting and charming style what it is.

The essence of Spanish design, regardless of Colonial, Revival or otherwise is a reflection of a lifestyle that hosts a welcoming base for all things worldly and characteristic.  It is found within an eclectic mix of white stucco, wood, wrought iron, arches, hand painted tiles, romantic sanctuary’s, courtyards and spaces for entertaining.

Spanish Design can take on many variations based on the unique tastes of its creator.  While a Colonial Spanish style home may be more palatial and ornate in the details, it is no less inviting than its more humble counterpart of the take off styles commonly seen in Southern California.

Modern Spanish Colonial

The home shown below, located in Santa Monica, has taken a Modern Spanish Colonial approach with white walls, rustic wood beams, arched doorways, and an open living area which leads out  to a charming courtyard with a variety of patterned tiles and room for entertaining.

A few of my favorite touches from the places we visited in Spain were the intricate tile work, especially on the staircase risers (as seen in the title image), and the beautiful doors; both regal and humble.  What an excellent way to set the stage for a stunning and welcoming experience.  Here are some inspirational photos from my own trip, may these invoke as much admiration and joy for you as they did for me!
